your role
Reporting to the General Manager of the NFL’s Australia & New Zealand office (Gold Coast, Australia) as well as to the league’s wider communications team (New York), this role would support the development and implementation of a best-in-class communications strategy to accelerate the NFL’s international business and vision locally in Australia & New Zealand.
- Helping to build and execute an Australia & New Zealand-focused communications plan and timeline to amplify key NFL events, milestones, programs and campaigns.
- Driving strategic storytelling to grow the profile of the NFL locally in-market. Development and promotion of specific narratives and events to include:
- 2026 NFL Melbourne Game.
- Global football development efforts across:
- NFL Academy Asia-Pacific (Gold Coast)
- International Player Pathway Program
- Flag football
- NFL Flag local programming across Australia & New Zealand
- LA28 Olympic Games and future Olympic Games efforts
- Local events around key NFL Tentpoles (watch parties, Kickoff and Super Bowl events).
- Local sponsors and partners in-market (local brands, global brands, media partners, consumer product partners, gaming partners).
- Executive storytelling, securing opportunities (interviews, panels, etc.) with key spokespeople – General Manager of NFL Australia & New Zealand, Head of Europe & APAC, Head of NFL Academy APAC.
- The league’s Global Markets Program, working with NFL clubs with rights in-market.
- Supporting IFAF / IOC communications ahead of the LA28 Olympics & beyond.
- Player storytelling of local heroes including Jordan Mailata (Eagles), IPP athletes, etc.
- Local communications liaison for the 2026 Melbourne Game, working with the wider international communications team in New York to promote and execute all things international publicity around the game.
- Building, enhancing and expanding media relations in market/region to enable deeper storytelling and go-to relationships with media across various verticals (NFL, sport, lifestyle, fashion, news, business).
- Provide knowledge and counsel around local media landscape.
- Successfully monitoring and reporting communications results to showcase impact.
Travel and hours of work
- Must be able to work from the office on the Gold Coast in Australia.
- The role will require travel and out-of-hours working.
Skills and experience
- 5 years’ + experience in communications and media relations management.
- Proven creation and delivery of strategic communications plans.
- Regularly and expertly dealing with local Australian & New Zealand media, effectively managing inbound requests.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Creative media ideas to proactively generate compelling storytelling on new platforms to reach new and youth audiences.
- Communications reporting, monitoring and measuring of results to showcase impact to NFL leadership.
- Support in drafting of communications briefings and executive messaging.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Beneficial to have, but not essential
- Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry.
- Knowledge of the NFL.
- Communications experience at live events.
